The eighth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) came to light. The 20-over tournament was supposed to be played with gallery-filled spectators with a one-year break due to Corona.
However, due to the rapid spread of the deadly virus, the fight started in the field without spectators. Today (Friday) at noon with the Chittagong Challengers-Fortune Barisal match, the screen of 2022 BPL has come up.
This year’s event will be held in Chittagong and Sylhet besides the capital Dhaka. A total of 34 matches will be played in 28 days. Two matches are being played on an opening day.
After Shakib Al Hasan’s Fortune Barisal and Mehedi Hasan Miraj’s Chittagong Challengers match, Mushfiqur Rahim’s Khulna Tigers and Mahmudullah’s Group of Ministers will face in the evening.
The BPL, the most iconic event in domestic cricket, is full of controversy and incoherence. After the BPL was played in 2012, there was a huge stir. The BCB and BPL Governing Council set the stage for the inaugural ceremony, starting with the team auction and player auction.
But with the passage of time, BPL seems to have become colorless! In the first edition of 2012, the champion team was given prize money of Tk 2 crore. The best player of the tournament is given a car.
Although such a picture was seen in the first two editions of BPL, the prize money has also decreased with the passage of time. The last time Dhaka Dynamites received prize money of Tk 2 crore was in 2016.
Although Bangabandhu became the Rajshahi champion in BPL in 2020, he did not get any prize money! The BCB has announced to give 1 crore rupees to the champion team and 50 lakh rupees to the runners-up.
The franchises got a chance to sort out the team from the player’s draft on December 26. Earlier, six teams of local and foreign cricketers were included in the team under direct contract. Mahmudullah’s Dhaka, Imrul Kayes’ Comilla, and Shakib’s Barisal are far ahead in terms of strength and experience after forming the team.
Chittagong and Sylhet have formed youth support teams. Although the star is a little less, Mushfiqur’s Khulna is not behind. All in all, let’s see how thrilling the fight of the six teams is this time.
